Third Person Completes Yankee Stadium Legacy Set

Posted by houstoncollector on April 9, 2009

News out of Upper Deck yesterday afternoon hit, announcing that Kent Hayes of Sacramento, California has become the third person to complete the 6600-card Yankee Stadium Legacy set and sending him to New York for a Yankees game and a chance to meet Derek Jeter.  Upper Deck wants to remind everyone trying for this that the deadline is April 30, 2009.

“I went to my very first game at Yankee Stadium last year,” said Hayes, when asked about the inspiration behind his challenging pursuit. “I had to get one game in before they closed the old stadium and while I was there, I saw some marketing materials regarding the set and thought, ‘Why not?’ I started collecting my first cards in July and finished the set in March.”

“This has been a lot of fun to watch,” said Terry Melia, Upper Deck’s public relations manager. “To have the first person complete the set was exciting in its own right, but to have three people on board at this point is just incredible. If two more collectors are able to finish their sets and send them in before the end of April, it would truly be remarkable.”

My question, honestly, would be how much money he spent on product and how much he spent on eBay to make this possible.  Admittedly, at least the YSL insert set had more of a point to it than the 20th Anniversary insert set.  Still, congratulations to Mr. Hayes on this accomplishment.
