Jackie Robinson’s First Football Card

The folks at Topps have announced that in their upcoming 2009 Topps Magic Football set, which is a college-themed set, they will be introducing a presumably short-printed card of Jackie Robinson, who was a running back for the UCLA Bruins in the late 1930s and early 1940s. He was the first athlete in UCLA history to letter in four sports, and played semi-professional football before breaking the color barrier in Major League Baseball.

This is very cool homage to one of the greatest athletes in professional sports history, for any number of reasons.  I just hope that the card isn’t too short printed, but we’ll find out soon, since the product is due to come out in less than two weeks.
