2009 Topps Ticket to Stardom Preview

Posted by houstoncollector on June 8, 2009

I know a few other bloggers have mentioned it, but I saw the sales sheet for 2009 Topps Ticket to Stardom today, and thought I would write up a preview.  The first thing I’m thinking as I read this is …. 2007 Topps TX football.  It’s the same gimmick, hopefully at a cheaper price per pack.  You’re looking at 20 packs per box and 1 ticket card with 2 relics, 1 ticket card with a relic, and one autographed relic.  Beyond that, you’re going to have 8 inserts (Ticket to Stardom, Big Tickets, Seasoned Vets), 11 base cards, and 1 parallel card.

The base set is 225 cards, made up of 200 veterans and 25 RCs.  With 3 hits and 2o packs a box, around $90-100 a box and $5 a pack wouldn’t be a bad deal.  My bet, though, is that this will be $150 a box and about $9-10 a pack, and be horribly overpriced at launch, then dropping to $60-80 a box by the World Series.  I will give credit to Topps for at least trying something different than the same old AU/GU, but I think this product just doesn’t have the right stuff to make it.
